Pre-Learning Physics Tutoring
At First Pass Tutors, I specialise in providing expert tuition in physics. My approach ensures that key curriculum concepts are truly understood, prior to your lessons; paving the way for success in exams.
Bio
At school I took Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry, and Physics A-levels as well as Classical Greek AS before studying Physics and Philosophy at the University of Oxford (Exeter College) where I was awarded a University Prize for academic excellence in my Finals.
I initially worked in the city as a chartered accountant (ACA) for 10 years and then retrained as a teacher of Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) again at the University of Oxford (Queen's College).
I have taught Economics, Maths, Physics, and Engineering to A level at two top-tier independent boarding schools. I also led the Oxbridge application programme at my first school. I am now two thirds of the way through a Masters in the Psychology of Education at UCL and sit on the Board of an education non-profit organisation.
I am passionate about applying my understanding of Psychology to improve the learning of Physics, and I put my money where my mouth is as a mother of two boys who I also support in pre-learning and developing mastery of mathematical and science principles.
Transition between prep and secondary
During the final year of prep school and the start of secondary school, students often experience a lull.
Especially for those who are starting secondary school at age 13 (year 9), the move from "new student" to "studying for GCSEs" is sometimes shocking.
Normally by the middle or end of this year sets are created for GCSEs and this can determine the atmosphere in which you will be working for important exam lessons.
In order to optimise performance in "setting" exams and tests it is really helpful to have been tutored on the fundamentals of your subjects.
